Kabir is the mystic poet who greatly influenced the Bhakti movement and generations to come. His Bhajans represent the Nirguni stream of Bhakti. His poetry is deep in philosophy and simple in language. Kabir inspires a classical musician as well as a folk singer equally. This course has four Bhajans of Kabir. These songs are based on Ragas Bhairav, Bhairavi and Brindavani Sarang. Swar Sadhana is done in these Ragas. There is emphasis on clarity of diction and expressions in the rendition of these Bhajans.

Objectives

  • To do Swar Sadhana in Ragas Brindavani Sarang, Bhairav and Bhairavi 
  • To learn Kabir Bhajans based on these Ragas
  • To be introduced to Sant Kabir and his writings
  • To learn and review the Taals Bhajan Taal and Dadra
  • To understand the jist of the songs 
  • To listen to different compositions in these Ragas

Learning Outcomes

 The student is able to

  • Sing the basic notation structures in Ragas Brindavani Sarang, Bhairav and Bhairavi.
  • Sing the Bhajans in Sur and Taal
  • Understand the connotation of the Kabir Bhajans sung
  • Express the emotions in the songs with the necessary voice modulations and use of Meend, Murki and Kan
  • Follow the rhythm structures in Bhajans
  • Differentiate different song types 
  • Recognise the Ragas by listening 

 

The student has completed HV104 at the academy OR the student has learnt Hindustani classical for at least one year.
